Early last September, at age 95, my father underwent MOHs surgery on his scalp to remove four layers of long-standing basal cell carcinoma. The procedure itself--performed by another physician--was successful, but the aftermath proved far more challenging. Closing the wound fell to Dr. Davenport, and the task was daunting: the wound was exceptionally large and deep, extending all the way to the bone. Complicating matters further, my father was on Coumadin, which led to excessive and often unpredictable bleeding. The uncertainty surrounding the next steps caused him significant anxiety. Despite these obstacles, Dr. Davenport approached the case with unwavering dedication and remarkable skill. Over the following weeks, he employed advanced wound dressings and performed serial closures using only sutures. Impressively, he was able to avoid the need for a graft--something that had been a major concern for my father. With the support of his outstanding team, including PA Steve and nursing assistant Angel, Dr. Davenport succeeded in fully closing the wound. The final result was the restoration of healthy, normal skin--something my father had not experienced in more than five years. The outcome felt nothing short of miraculous.
