When I told Dr. Setzen that I had trouble breathing through my nose and that it was causing me problems, he explained the VivAer procedure and examined me, looking in my nose, to see if I was a good candidate. He said yes, and told me it has a 75% success rate and does not make things worse. So I agreed to the procedure. There was some local anesthesia, and the procedure itself was not painful and I did not bleed. At worst, I would say it was a bit uncomfortable for about 15 minutes. I went home, driving myself, and was able to resume my normal activities (but no heavy exercise for a few days). Now, with the procedure done, I can breathe much better through my nose, and my significant other has told me she has not heard me snore at night for the last two weeks, while in the past I have snored just about every night. I feel much better being able to breathe the way our bodies are meant and designed to breathe.

I had a very disappointing experience when attempting to see Michael Setzen, whom I found through Northwell Health. Before my visit, I explained my insurance over the phone and was told the doctor would work with me. Based on that, I scheduled and traveled nearly an hour for this appointment. After arriving, completing paperwork, and providing my insurance card, I was never seen by the doctor. Instead, I was told the consultation would be $650 out of pocket, with no insurance accepted, which completely contradicted what I was told beforehand. I was also told that a sinus lift and septoplasty could cost up to $40,000 before even having a consultation. I was essentially turned away after investing my time and travel. This felt misleading and unprofessional, and the lack of transparency around costs without examining me personally was very disappointing.
