I adopted one of the dogs rescued from Dr. Gladstein's home back in September 2010, when he and his wife were charged in connection with a large-scale animal hoarding and neglect case. A quick Google search will bring up multiple news reports detailing what authorities found at the time. My dog was one of more than 100 animals removed from the property. He was terrified, severely neglected, dehydrated, and so matted that his entire coat had to be shaved off in one piece. He also needed stitches most likely from fighting other dogs for food. According to news reports, the ammonia smell from the urine inside the home was so overwhelming that it set off the fire alarms and required officials to wear protective gear to enter. Reports also stated that deceased animals were found inside the residence, including some piled in bathtubs and sinks. Today, that same dog is still with us -- 17 or 18 years old -- and living a happy, safe life. He is truly one of the lucky ones who survived that situation. We love him so much and are so thankful to have him in our lives. I cannot speak to Dr. Gladstein's abilities as a dermatologist. However, based on my experience adopting one of the rescued dogs and the documented details from the case, I personally would never feel comfortable being treated by him. I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision.
