Aman Spa - Luxury Price, Limited Experience I booked a treatment at the Aman Spa to celebrate my birthday and came in with a $500 gift card, thinking that would comfortably cover a 60-minute massage. That assumption turned out to be overly optimistic. First surprise: there is a mandatory $100 "access fee." Naturally, I asked what that included -- pool, relaxation lounge, teas, snacks, water, fitness facility access? The answer: none of those. The pool and fitness facility are reserved for hotel guests and members only. The access fee essentially allows you into the spa locker room so you can get to your treatment. I knew I would be short on time today and asked if I could skip the "facilities" (i.e. locker room) and just go straight to my treatment upon arrival. Unfortunately, the $100 access fee is required regardless. I was also told I was "lucky" as the fee used to be $175. Lucky indeed! Who doesn't love a cover charge? The layout adds another layer of adventure. Getting to the spa requires you to visit multiple floors with very limited signage. I was escorted on the way in, but after my treatment, I spent about 10 minutes wandering elevators and hallways trying to find my way out. For a place built around tranquility, the exit experience felt more like an escape room. Spa reception is on floor 11, treatment is on floor 9, and locker room is on floor 10... maybe? There is also no real relaxation area for day guests. I was asked to wait for my appointment in a dim hallway facing the elevator. There was no tea, no table, no drinks/snacks, no quiet lounge space, just front-row seating to the elevator. On a positive note, the massage itself was excellent. My therapist was kind, skilled, and the treatment room was comfortable. The massage therapist truly delivered. Overall, you're paying a premium for the Aman name, but the spa experience feels surprisingly bare bones and operationally confusing. At this price point, the experience should feel seamless, thoughtful, and restorative from start to finish. I've visited many spas around the world, and for this level of pricing, I would expect, at a minimum, a proper relaxation area and basic amenities. Instead, it felt like a luxury treatment surrounded by logistics and unnecessary fees. There are many places in the city where a $500 birthday spa visit actually feels like a celebration. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of them.

Aman Spa New York--solid, refined, exactly what you'd expect. This place is well done clean, spacious, and designed with that understated luxury Aman is known for. The massage was on point, no complaints there. My only issue? The music or ambient sound in the massage room. It just didn't hit the way it should. When you're at a place like this, you expect everything to be dialed in, and that part felt a little off. Other than that, the experience is exactly what you'd expect from a high-level spa in New York discreet, well-run, and no unnecessary frills.
